Health checkup packages faulted

Routine health checkup packages sold at hospitals are luring consumers into paying for unnecessary tests, the Public Health Ministry's research agency said.

Yot Teerawattananon, senior researcher at the Health Interventional and Technology Assessment Programme (Hitap), said on Thursday a two-year study of health checkup packages found many tested for diseases that do not need to be checked for every year.

Superfluous tests offered in the packages include lung X-rays and prostrate cancer checkups, Dr Yot said.

    after all those years, then here you are telling the people that all those efforts, money, time used for that program are useless? So those victimized with this useless checkup package can file a case because they were deceived....?///

    You are spot on mate, go to the chemist and ask for some medicine, and if you are a farlang you will be given the biggest and most expensive medicine there is in the chemist shop. always ask for the local brand as it is always 40 to 50 percent cheaper, and just as good.

    Hospitals routinely over prescribe medicine and choose imported brands at 3 times the price instead of cheaper locally made ones .Being quoted a price for an operation I felt like I was bargaining for products in a market .This capitalizes on the fear people have and is inexcusable .
