The decision to buy property is often driven by a wider range of motives than purchases in most other asset classes. Motives vary from subjective reasoning to assessing the financial facts. It is unwise to mix emotional considerations with investment reasoning.
Property tends to be a subjective asset because the majority of people associate it with a home. When making an investment in property there are many factors to consider.
Some expats buy a home where they are posted only because they feel paying rent is a waste of resources. Many agree that "Rent money is dead money." Owning a home gives one the feeling of being control as well as comfort and a sense of benefit in purchasing the asset.
