New THAI president excited by times ahead

The new president of Thai Airways International (THAI) is confident the airline's fortunes will turn around soon when the flag carrier introduces its best-ever "products" next year.

Sorajak: Lays out plans for the future

Sorajak Kasemsuvan told the Bangkok Post that although the airline would have a heavier debt burden this coming year, at the same time it would have "the best products in its history".

Thai Is still using the old national carrier business model which is dying on its feet without vast state aid it would have gone under years ago but national pride wants a national carrier at all costs until the state subsidies Thai receive come with real conditions and then it’s will limp along it would be interesting to know the figures for passengers who fly Thai but don’t pay in Thai baht that would be a good indicator on how the world perceives Thai

I last flew with Thai five years ago, I had to pay a premium. My wife wanted to support her national carrier!

The plane was old, the food not up to any standard, in flight entertainment was out of date then and the staff were (especially the Purser) arrogant and lacking in all aspects of customer service.

Just looked at flights for May from LHR to BKK and Thai is Number 11 in the price stake. EVA is £100 per person cheaper. So the question is, do I fly with an excellent airline with superb in flight facilities and save £300 or fly with Thai?

As somebody that fly's Thai every week the most irritating issues are:

    - Having to get a bus off the plane to immigration
    - Poor points award system
    - The terrible choice in Eco for documentaries (simply astoundingly bad)

However, flying business is fine if you are on a newer plane.

Stop giving away free seats to the rich and powerful and Thai Airways could be profitable.

The best chef and best food won't do any good if no one fly Thai airway. The price is too high and the staff seems to think they are better than passenger esp.if you're Thai. Wake up Thai airway!!!

Tough time for airlines to made a profit especially the ful service airlines as global economies struggle. The Asian airlines are feeling the strain of higher fuel cost and declining passengers. Heavy weights like Cathy, MAS and Quantas will end up with losses. Even the well managed SIA will have a 30% profit decline. So really bold statement by Khun Sorajak. Will see but certainly big changes are needed for TG.

It's been said many times about the poor service and high cost, not to mention the shoddy state of the planes.

The answer is simple. Stop hiring HiSo cabin staff who think they're better than the passengers. Lower your prices DRAMATICALLY to compete with airlines that are at the moment far better at every level. Modernize your inflight experience to something resembling the 21st century. For example, how about free Internet? Many airlines now offer a free LAN connection even in economy.

All they have to do now is drop their prices 30 percent so they will be the same as everyone else .Get off your high horse Thai airways .

World travelers know the poor reputation Thai has in every department and will continue to fly with other airlines until Thai become more efficient, lower their prices and remove arrogance off the cabin crews menu. When will this happen, not under this political presidential appointment or any other - therefore never! But who cares when the state funds the losses and the freebies continue to fly unhindered.

Food is not the problem. Staff are the problem, i have flown all classes and you see the trolley dollies lording it with rich locals and the rest do not matter. Service is the key word and unfortunately Thai is severely lacking. The check in staff are not much better either
As for entertainment I will believe it when I see it.
They must look at other airlines and see why they are marching ahead. Value and service
