Murder fuels South teacher security fears

Schools shut down after headmistress slaying

Executives from 40 schools in Pattani's Nong Chik district held an emergency meeting yesterday to work out a new security plan for teachers following the murder of a headmistress on Thursday.

Two gunmen opened fire with an M16 automatic rifle and a 9mm handgun at Nanthana Kaewchan, the 51-year-old headmistress of Ban Tha Kam Cham School, as she drove home in a car in Nong Chik on Thursday evening.

She was pronounced dead in hospital after succumbing to multiple wounds.

Yes good idea to send people to train in Israel. Then they could come back and bulldoze peoples houses etc and create no go zones and build a big wall around the border cutting off the peoples right of work etc.

You have no one to negogigate with. They are terrorist and being coward to identify them self. Government need to come up with effective tactics. Send some one to learn the lessons from Israel.

TAT should a new campaign for tourist.
"Come to Pattani. Enjoy the excitement of Afganistan and Syria plus a tropical climate".

This is an impossible to win battle for the government. Just give the south what they want and move ahead. An autonomous state should fix the problems.

It's just really sad, all of this. Perhaps the "Government", should seriously ponder a large degree of autonomy for these three provinces. Oh, by the way, where is out Internal Security czar Chalerm, when you need him? He's up North? Really?

See, it's obvious that this government does not care about the Thais being bombed, killed, shot and victimized in their own country in the southern provinces. Monks, teachers, innocent bystanders, and other tax-payers just can't be bothered with. On the other hand there are now an estimated 20,000 police made available to protect the ‘government’ in Bangkok. This government cares only about its political party members, period!

The terrorists are saying that despite all the police and army prescence they cannot be everywhere all the time and if you work for the Central government you may be murdered at any time.Male, female, young or old they don't care.
They have the ability to terrorise the locals and get their support, willingly or unwillingly.
As the IRA said once, we only need to be lucky once but the military has to be lucky ALL the time.
