Court blames troops for killing red cabbie

The Criminal Court yesterday concluded that a civilian red-shirt supporter was killed by soldiers in Bangkok during the 2010 anti-government protests.

Weng: Abhisit, Suthep must take the rap

The ruling followed a request by criminal litigation prosecutors for the court to establish the identity and circumstances surrounding the death of a man who was fatally shot in front of a petrol station in Soi Rang Nam on May 15, 2010.

@Disc 10 - The government called on the police to do their jobs, many refuse and stood and watch red shirts break the law in 2010. If the police kept the red shirts out of downtown like they did a few days ago, people will have more trust in them and soldiers wouldn't be called in.

"They responded with an army that had zero training in crowd control or zero experience on how to disperse an unruly crowd." Unfortunately because the police seemed to show no interest in controlling the situation.

R.I.P. for another (not!)'peaceful demonstrator' from UDD. Driving a taxi is a professional occupation. Building a bunker with tyres (at a petrol station!) is a criminal activity, rioting. Doing so in an area under emergency decree is willfully exposing yourself to dire consequences. The probability(!) he was deadly injured(!) by army bullets is high. Anyway, that man should still be alive, and he would for sure be, like all the others, when Thaksin would not have been instigating unrest through his UDD, period.

    D6

Yeah but that was "protesters". And as long as you do something under the guise of "protesting" you can apparently do whatever you want without having to take responsibility for it.

These people are terrorists and should be treated as such.

Building a bunker hardly constitutes a demonstration, but then, building a bunker shouldn't lead to being shot dead. Isn't an army supposed to resist foreign invaders?

RE: D10 of course it would have, but the government did not respond with proper crowd control measures or even a trained police force in dealing with crowd control. They responded with an army that had zero training in crowd control or zero experience on how to disperse an unruly crowd. They brought war weapons and soldiers trained to kill instead of being trained to disperse and break up a crowd. This only inflamed the situation even worse than it was already. This taxi diver is only one example of a poorly directed response that only escalated an already bad situation.

Seems strange that sensible, well balanced comments on here have 30 plus dislikes after them simply because of any hint of political slant.
Robins D3 is 100% right, this does deflect attention from Thailand's real issues. I hope definitive proof via proper trial will help relatives of those killed find closure, then if desired seek any compensation & condolence packages they're entitled to.
Sadly in Thailand & anywhere else, politicians will never be jailed for the actions of low level military servicemen. The correct goal of identifying what happened, saying sorry, making amends & compensating is underway, at last :)

The soldiers were seen shooting him. It doesn't matter which soldier because they were acting under the orders of the military leaders who blame it on the government. The Dems are responsible acording to the army because they carried out their orders.

Is constructing a tire bunker a terrorist act and worth getting killed for?

History is (re)written by the victors.
