Chalerm calls for caution on charter change

Pheu Thai, coalition agree to resume push

Members of the ruling Pheu Thai Party broadly agree to resume the push to amend the charter, although Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung has urged caution.

Prime minister's adviser Pokin Polakul, who chairs the panel studying the possibility of amending the constitution, briefed the premier yesterday on the panel's recommendation to move on with the charter change bid.

The panel believes Pheu Thai should proceed by starting with a vote to pass the third and final reading of the constitutional amendment bill pending parliament's consideration.

As long as there are people who benefit from "appointing" instead of "electing", it will be tough to change the charter. Take the 3G deal for example, instead of having 3 private service providers who have enough bandwidth for their customers, we now have only one who has 15mhz at the moment. By voiding the auction, the other 2 companies have no way of competing because they are limited by their current bandwidth. It was fortunate for Thailand that these coup's "appointed" nominee senators couldn't stop it this time around. Judging by the past agenda, they will also try to stop Thailand from joining TPP, AFTA and APT in the near future.

Oh Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung,......the voice of infinite wisdom, and dutiful servant of the man who lives far away.

Nevermind that the 3 southern provinces are racked with terrorism and daily murders of innocent people, or that corruption has hit an all time high,....let's all just get behind PT and ram through a new piece of paper that'll be drafted by a fugitive of justice. We don't need to know what they want changed in that constitution, because it's not our business, it's their top priority to change it and bring their messiah home from the desert land far away.

Is really that hard to understand PT ? You dont change the countries constitution to pardon a fugitive .Go to a temple and ask any monk if two wrongs make a right .Its common sense .Let Thaksin deal with all of his bad karma by himself .He is a billionaire he will be ok .Dont be such slaves to money .

Everybody who lived in Thailand for a few years will understand that there is no such thing as a democracy in thai families. In every thai family there is 1 dictator and every other family members has to follow his orders.
How can the common thai people understand what democracy really is ? They can't.

Yingluck is playing with words. "Thaksin says, Pheu Thai does." He has an absolute majority in Parliament, so Thaksin essentially controls decisions made and the government parties' votes in Parliament. Therefore, who could it be that is implementing and pushing through the process to whitewash Thaksin, I wonder?

It doesn't matter how fast or slowly the Charter rewrite is carried out, we know that the referendum will be fixed and that there will be many violent street demonstrations in which the Red Shirt mobs will be involved this time.

PT is doing a terrible job running the country and when ever they can they run back to try and rewrite the constitution for the fugitive .Its bad enough the puppets are incapable of independent thought .Do not for a second think you will bring the fugitive back to run the country .Is he going to have 24 hour guards ?

I don't see anything wrong with current Constitution. Why PT spent so much time tried to change it last year? The problem in the south is much more urgent than changing or amending The Constitution. This PT government totally ignored the problem in the south. Their priority is wrong, teacher is dying almost every day, hundred of schools were burnt down since 2004. The Red likes to rambo so much, could the government send some of them and see how they fare in the deep south? I would be happy to donate empty bottles plus kerosene or gasoline if they are willing to fight in the deep south!

This is nonsense, because, the Govt's highest priority should be given to fighting and winning our War on Terror in the Deep South, where innocent Thai people are getting murdered by the thousands on a daily basis. Is the Deep South still Thai territory? If it is, I can't tell, because the terrorists' rules of terror is increasingly in force, instead of our Rules of Law.
