Youths have negative views on politics

Most young people have negative perception of Thai politics, according to a survey conducted by the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida).

The pollsters surveyed 1,248 people between 15 and 25 years old for their views on politics. The study was conducted throughout the country on Nov 26 and 27, 2012.

80.53% of the respondents said politics is closely tied with their lives. 9.13% said the topic is irrelevant to them and they want to concentrate on their studies or work.

Thaksin/PTP's idea is 'we won so we can do whatever we like'; that is not Democratic thinking but a 1 party state dictatorship mentality. Not surprising given their leader is Mr 'democracy is not my goal' Thaksin.

Disc4 Spiceman - It's not only Thais, but the Usual Red Suspects on BP Fora.

Hear their clarion call - "But we won the election! But the people have spoken!"
Then ask them some simple questions...
Which of PT policies have been successful?
Who has benefited most during the past 17 months?
Is Thaksin innocent?
And soon a depressing picture emerges... PT have done nothing. Only crooks have benefited. And not even the die-hard Thaksin fans dare say he is innocent.
As these facts start to sink in, they'll shake their heads vigorously and go back to shouting "But we won the election! But the people have spoken!"

Khun Bikeme #1, I think you nail it. Most Thai people believe winning a majority on the election day is "Democracy." In fact, election result only marks the beginning of a democratic process. The rest which must be followed are preserving minority's right based upon the Rules of Law, which are yet to be established ever in Thailand. And without it, we only have Mob Rule, not Democracy!

This, if correct, just reiterates how poor the education system is in Thailand.These people are the future generation to be entrusted with Thailand's future. The thing they learn is that to win a debate you use violence and that is from all the media.The news canals and the press are totally inadequate at providing the necessary stimulus to enable them understand and evaluate what is happening in there own country.

I can imagine the pool questions were multiple choice and they were given 4 choices with negative connotations and one positive one so the results could not be expected to show a positive outcome.
Unfortunately for Thailand all polls are conducted in the same shoddy way.
This is not to say I have anything good to say about Thai politics, as it is 100% corrupt on all sides and everyone in Thailand knows it. But my complaint is the fallacy of the polls.

One has to ask ... what "definitions" of Democracy did the polled people have to choose from? Did the poll creator really know what Democracy is when he/she wrote the questions?
