Yingluck promises peace in restive South

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra promised to do her best to restore peace in the southernmost provinces, and to end insurgent violence with fearful teachers now a major target, during meetings in Pattani on Thursday.

Ms Yingluck told members of the Women's Development Fund in Pattani province that she would do her best to end the violence, but said she could not achieve that goal without help from all groups in the region.

The prime minister's one-day visit came as teachers in Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and parts of Songkhla province once again closed classrooms at all state schools, saying that despite promises of improved safety measures they still fear for their lives after even more of their colleagues were murdered recently.

sorry to say this but the only way to defeat or bring them to the table is by force and get the Malaysian goverment on board, this means having the Malay special forces patrolling the boarder and bringing in the Thai Sfs. Having worked with both i know that they are very capable of working together and achieving a positive out come and yes there will be a lot of deaths but these deaths will be the guilty and not the innocent.

#9 Let me answer your question with another question. Are the people Yingluck is indirectly killing wearing red shirts? If not, then no. On another note, people are going to die just so the terrorists can prove (correctly) that her visit changed nothing.

If the DSI can say Abhisit should face murder charges for ordering the army to defend Bangkok and soldiers killed people as a result, can Yingluck therefor be charged with murder?
She has openly claimed to be in charge of national security, she has openly claimed to be in charge of the troops in the South, so does their allowing the deaths of dozens of innocent people constitute murder charges or at least negligent homicide? She's in charge. She places the orders. Their performance has resulted in deaths just as surely as the PTP's claim that Abhisit's actions caused innocent civilians.

You people talk like she created the problem. In fact it was inherited. If you feel you have to condemn Yingluck then to avoid being a hypocrite you must also condemn Abhisit. Abhisit never ended it. Why not? You don't hear anybody criticizing him for failing. The problem will not be easy to solve. If you have all the answers, go to the south and offer your help.

No she did not promise peace. She said she would do here best there is a world of a difference.

Leaving responsibility for sorting the problem with the locals, including asking them to gather intelligence (act as spies) will only make the matter worse. Seems Bangkok is washing its hands of the problem and saying it's up to the Southerners to sort it out.

Last teacher out of the South, please turn the lights out.

D1 As we all know her best is not good. When one is just a puppet to to ones sibling that is busy flying from country to country taking shots at opposing politicians where one should be serving jail time but one does not have the backbone to do then all that can be expected is the same old song and dance.
Currently the past PM is being charged with murder. Situations being very little different when PT god TS was the leader, why is TS not being charged with the murder of those at Tak Bai? He was the PM when they loaded those people like logs into trucks. Thailand is disgusting when it comes to reality!

"Her promise was echoed by Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung, who remained in Bangkok."

Where he claimed that there are no terrorists in Thailand.

Based on the past, this is all just a bunch of talk. The fact that it took the thousands killed and the thousands wounded to get a politician out of the Bangkok bunkers speaks volumes of what to expect; very little. A one day visit will not work magic, the terrorist still are not deterred and the teachers have no reason to feel any safer from a few hours of the Yingluck in town. All that was said was that the locals need to take on more of the burden; gee, thanks. And Chalerm echoed her promise to try but she can’t do it alone. Months from now it will be the same.
