Dems order governor to toe the line

Sukhumbhand backed, but conditions apply

The Democrat Party is attempting to rein in Bangkok governor MR Sukhumbhand Paribatra's "maverick" governing style.

Party bosses have told him they are willing to field him as a candidate for re-election next year only on condition that he is more accountable to the party and listens to its advice, sources say.

Democrat and opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva officially announced MR Sukhumbhand as the Democrats' candidate Friday.

Not a cat in hells chance,How much money have his wayward ways cost the capital starting with a certain stadium and his disastrous comments about FIFA.Then shall we go on to flood management and his total lack of cooperation with other agencies. Then lets go on to his inability to stop taxi corruption and the total contempt in solving the congestion problems.Need I go on?

"the governor had worked with honesty and devotion." Fact, and we cannot say this from most "leaders".

Imagine the effects of an entire party toeing the line.

    They could win government democratically!

Dis 15 – The Dems didn’t have a choice. If they had chosen someone else, Sukhumband would have run as independent. In the likelihood of this happening, both the Dems and Sukhumband would have most likely lost out to the advantage of the PT. It was a strategic move, nothing to do with like or dislike.

If following the Prachatipad Party's lines and ends up where AV & Suthep are right now, why bother?

Why dictate terms ? He won because people supported him .If they support him he will win again .Dont compromise the only chance of winning an election the Democrats have with tit for tat stuff like this .

Disc 11, jacksprat. You should not be so hasty with that comment. Wait until February, you may very possibly find that the public also doesn't like the Democrat Sukhumband.

Since the governers post is being linked to political parties, Democrat supporters will vote for whichever democrat is pushed for the post but THIS Sukhumbhand is useless. The Democrats should have made a change. During the big project to repair footpaths in Bangkok, I had REPEATEDLY written to the muncipal office of the road leading from Silom Opposite Holiday Inn and going to Mahesak. The workers had merely placed the stones with no cement or fixing. I personally saw dozens of people sprain ankles and almost falling on the road and into the traffice lane. There was never any action taken. This stone hearted man does not deserve your vote.

Perhaps is familiarity with the problems is the result of his adding to the problems.
