As the country's first female prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra is accustomed to having her wardrobe put in the spotlight, and in 2012, the premier's style choices - from makeup, hair styles to outfits - often ended up in the news.

The dress which Ms Yingluck wore during the reception of US President Barack Obama in November.

Her style can be deemed a combination of her background in business - Ms Yingluck was a top executive at SC Assets before she entered politics - and years of growing up in a silk manufacturing empire owned by her family.

She may be totally superficial as a PM. But, she's a refined lady-like woman, who always looks good; all of which I think has contributed hugely to her international standing. The foreign media are attracted more by surface attributes and rarely delve too deep into substance.

She is very good for Thai PR, which ironically would suffer greatly, if her brother came back to steal the spotlight from her.
