Weapons cache found in Narathiwat

Security forces have discovered a large cache of assault rifles and ammunition buried in a rubber plantation in Narathiwat's Cho Airong district.

About 200 offices from the 48 Rangers Regiment and border patrol police carried out the search around 11pm Friday in the southern province. They unearthed five assault rifles, including four M16s and an AK, with seven magazines and 382 bullets, including M16 and AK rifle bullets, shotgun shells and M60 machine-gun bullets.

The weapons and ammunition were found in eight large fertiliser sacks and plastic bags, each one buried under a rubber tree, said Lt Col Issara Chantakrayom, deputy commander of the 48 Rangers Regiment.

"The search was carried out after authorities interrogated a key figure from the Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK)" The story doesn't tell what it took to let him talk, but it's not hard to guess.

In a pr0vince where there are probably more fire arms than people, this can't be a large - or even meaningful - cache.
Regularly, Thai armed forces are robbed of firearms and ammunition, by whoever, ate often large than a few assault rifles.

    Dis 3.
Not 200 personnel but, and i quote now "About 200 offices from the 48 Rangers Regiment and border patrol police". So 200 offices with untold number of personnel did come in action.

I think for security reasons the amount of involved rangers and police personnel it is not mentioned ?

Over 200 personnel to take 5 guns out of circulation? At this rate, the southern insurgency will be wiped out in no time at all!

Good work and I hope we see more direct action like this.

I would have set up a concealed watch on the cache and arrested whoever came to it though, even before uncovering it. Next time it could be booby trapped.

Good to see a result though!

Five (5)weapons and ammunition a "large cache"......you have to be kidding! You could probably find that in 30% of homes around the country - no matter what the intended use.
