NARATHIWAT : Security officials have stumbled upon a large weapons cache in Narathiwat, thwarting what they believe was a terror plot planned for the New Year holidays.

The discovery followed the arrest on Thursday of Rutsaran Sale, alleged leader of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) insurgent group.

The officers were inspecting a rubber plantation in Ban Darun Hisan in Cho Airong district late Friday and early Saturday when they found the weapons and explosive materials buried beneath some of the rubber trees.

Very good work identifying the suspect, then arresting him, interrogating him and finding the weapons cache. Please do not let him out on bail, as is quite often the case in Thailand. This will enable the suspect to escape justice and live in exile. Get him to court as soon as it is clear there is an abundance of evidence and confessions from this suspect. Remember those he has allegedly killed and ensure he pays for these terrorist crimes.

After many months of bad news from the south, we finally get some good news. Hope this is a start to a great New Year with many more positive stories like this. Great work for the Thai Security forces, (be they police or the military,) Great Job!

Thailand, please don't fool yourself. The police and soldiers are absolutely incapable of protecting the innocent peoples in the south. Should we say more?

I wonder how they caught Rutsaran Sale, alleged leader of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) insurgent group? If it was though intelligence, a local tip off or just luck, we will never know but good for them anyway The security officers needed a boost to their morale and so do the people in the South.

A good show for them all.

Great news and great work! I hope the security forces have many metal detectors so they can begin sweeping the area in search of weapon cache like this one, before those guns and bombs can be used to murder the innocent people.
