Air force plans upgrades to radar system

The air force will improve its radar-based defence system next year and link it to the army and navy for joint missions.

It intends to replace ageing radars and support facilities with new systems to search for airborne targets under the Royal Thai Air Force Defence System (RTAD), said air force chief Prajin Jantong.

The air force will be able to communicate with the navy's frigates _ HTMS Naresuan and HTMS Taksin _ and the navy's aircraft carrier HTMS Chakri Naruebet.

Communicate with an aircraft carrier that has sat at dock without aircraft for 10 years.

Let's see what has been the greatest threat facing Thai citizens in the last 8 years? Is it the lack of a new super expensive radar system, or super expensive fighter jets, which will never be used in harm's way ever, or the fact that innocent Thai citizens are being murdered in cold blood nearly every single day in the Deep South, totaling more than 5,000 deaths-to date? So, logic only dictates that is where our top priority must be given in the forms of treasure, and man power, in order to eliminate that threat. Talking about fussy Thai logic!

Where does the announcement say the military submited it's proposed changes, costing millions, to the Defense Minister, with full specificaions/justification, etc, for approval ? Defensive weaponery for defense against who/what ? Last count- no military branch has fired a defensive shot in 65 + years but did, crash 2/3 choppers, an unflown airship, ordered bomb detectors already declared ineffective, 1,500 "sniper" rifles some of which hae already been stolen, been totally useless in Southern insurgency and still, apparently, enjoy having a key to the Thai ecooomy vault to walk in and take out what they want.

More money in the Air Force pockets. Don't bother overhauling the education system, the social welfare system, the pathetic infrastructure and road system, the public transportation system, spend all the money on something there is absolutely no need for. Does Thailand have a problem with airborne targets? Yes they do if you consider the Army's Airship blimp falling out of the sky a problem! Other than that, there is absolutely no need or threat. More wasteful, frivolous corrupt spending in progess because the military knows PT cannot say NO, NO, NO

No need to overhaul the radr on the aircraft carrier, it's easy to communicate with it, just walk down to the wharf and yell from the dock.

Does the aircraft carrier do anything, does it ever haul anchor? Should Thailand spend more on that rust bucket? Maybe the new radar will tell them whereabouts the airship falls out of the sky next time?
