Senators will move to block total rewrite

The Senate will oppose any plan to rewrite the constitution in its entirety, as such a move could spark a new round of political conflict, Senate Speaker Nikhom Wairatchapanich says.

He said the Senate backs efforts to foster peace and harmony in society but will distance itself from any risks of political conflict.

Mr Nikhom said the third-reading vote on the charter change bill that is pending in parliament will probably provoke strong resistance from opponents of the bill.

Here we go again. Another referendum. Blame the people instead of making decisions for the good of Thailand which may be (initially) unpopular. No wonder Asean has been put back a year. Could it be put back forever? I don't think that the 'big people' have realised what will happen to their 'nice little earners' when Asean finally happens. Or maybe they have. Another referendum perhaps?
