Rohingya land in Phuket

Phuket - Seventy-four Rohingya from Myanmar illegally entered Thailand on Tuesday after the captain of their ship lost direction on the way to Malaysia.

Their 10-metre vessel is now anchored in front of Koh Bon in Muang district, which is about three kilometres from Rawai beach.

Authorities including police from Chalong station and immigration police were alerted by a tourist boat about the ship.

    Thanks, bew.

I've been reading up on Burmese history, Mon, Arakin, Anawrahta, Tabinshwehti-now there's a good read-etc. Haven't got to the inevitable British part.

I'm hoping I don't have to read Bengali history to understand this mess. Any suggested reading?

I agree with #1. In fact, they're Bengali people. This is another UK-created problem. The Brits brought many Muslim Bengalis to Myanmar during colonial period. Actually many of them helped the Brits to colonise Myanmar & Rakhine. That's why many people in Myanmar hate them. The solution is hard to come by as nobody wants them.

"The municipality gave them food and fuel, and contacted the police and the navy to prepare to push them back to the sea as they insisted on going to Malaysia, Mr Arun said."

I can see them know, please send me back to the sea so that I can go through further despair to reach Malaysia....yeah right. Just another way for the Thai authorities to act inhuman and once again push them out to sea....semi legally.

Give them all Thai citizenship. Show kindness.

"...about 500 Myanmar nationals swam the last 500 metres,,,"

Rohingya Muslims in the Myanmar Rakhine State are NOT Burmese/Myanmanise nationals! they are simply Bangladishies with no official Burmese refugee status. Their vessel should be seized and they should be deported back to Banglasesh. Which, bye the way, is a far sight better than towing them out to see and setting their crippled vessel adrift on the high seas; as was the case a few years ago.
