Pheu Thai denies axing TV show

The cancellation of the Channel 3 political soap opera "Nua Mek 2" for "inappropriate content" had nothing to do with the government, says a Pheu Thai Party deputy spokesman.

"The government did not intervene or order [Channel 3] to take Nua Mek 2 off the air," Jirayu Huangsap said on Saturday.

"But we should be aware that people will always associate any soap operas with a political storyline with the current government in any period of time."

Facts only disc 15 in answer to your post.
Sunisa Lertpakawat, another Pheu Thai deputy spokeswoman, said it was impossible for the "Man in Dubai", a reference to Thaksin's base in exile, to ask Channel 3 to abruptly end the show.
"Former prime minister Thaksin lives abroad and there's no way he's watching this soap opera," Lt Sunisa said.
She said Channel 3 was a public company listed on the stock market and it had executives who made decisions in a professional manner.

What is bizarre is that the show was cancelled with only 3 more episodes to go. Maybe somebody didn't like the predictable ending - the bad guy loses.

"Nua Mek 2 tells the story of a prime minister, his crooked deputy who is involved in a dubious satellite project, and a sorcerer who performs black rites to manipulate political events...The hook of the story was that the prime minister has already been dead and what we see is his body possessed by a necromancer." - above

"Chavanond Intarakomalyasut, a spokesman for the opposition Democrat Party, said...the drama focused on morality, ethics, goodness and the principle of doing good for the country." - above

The Man in Dubai can watch the play on the internet. My daughter in Qatar watches it, on YouTube, I think. If he did not demand that the play is terminated, then who terminated it? The necromancer? Besides, if the Pheu T politicians say that they had nothing to do with this, then we know they did. Politicians never lie. They just say the opposite of the truth by habit.

'Does the plot offend someone who works behind the government since the show and this government share similar elements?'

Sums it up. The someone is not behind the government but IS the government : Thaksin thinks; PTP acts.

There are many satiral shows, movies about politicians, entertainment personals ,etc in The US based on true stories which was many time claimed by writers to be true with little colored to make them for entertainments. This Thai soap is done for the same purpose and also the best shows might have some educational materials in them. This soap want to educate Thais to relearn honesty, morality. If the government is already tarnished this show will not make them any worse and will be even much worse to ban them. By the way I love "Saturday Night Live from New York" laugh every time they rerun.

Do you know what makes people look stupid? Yes, this is exactly what happened here. They are so guilty conscious that even TV programs also have to interfere. The reason is simply to avoid the general public to see the re-enactment of what the prime minister's fugitive brother did to the whole of Thailand. Yes, the government by doing this is exactly what makes them look so stupid!

On the 2012 Freedom House Index of Democracy, Thailand scores 4 for Political Rights, 4 for Civil Liberties. The range is from 1 indicating the highest level of freedom, and 7 the lowest level of freedom in a country. This earns Thailand the level of democracy ranking of partly free. Not almost free but partly free. Below average, that is. Thailand, land of the free? The fact that no one shows their face to accept responsibility for the censorship makes it worse. We are no longer a democratic country, and the perpetrators of censorship of all kinds, no longer even care to justify themselves.

An at the same time they say they fight for a democratic Thailand, oh boy oh boy.
Once more the leaders gave us the laugh of the day, it is hard to find a better soap opera than what they give us.

Yeah, sure, Thaksin would never even try to influence the media. How would anybody get that absurd idea?
