Thais are still politically divided with entrenched opinions, according to Suan Dusit Poll which conducted a survey on people's feelings about the divisive conflict still rattling the country six years after the coup that brought down the Thaksin administration.

The poll was conducted between Jan 6-12 on 1,421 people throughout the country.

Asked what they thought about the current state of conflict among the Thai people, most or 49.57% of the respondents thought division still existed and both sides in the conflict held different opinions, 36.83% still saw no proper way out; and 13.6% wanted the conflict to end as soon as possible.

True, respecting different opinions is part and parcel of a progressive society; but not “mob-rule” or “regime-changing” entities. As long as the main proponents are still able and willing to “move and shape things” around them, nothing will be changed for the foreseeable future. This present status quo is just a temporary respite before another battles start again; but this time, it will be for all the marbles available. "Thais are still politically divided with entrenched opinions." They needed a poll to know that? All they had to do was look at the posts in this forum. The red shirts here think their people walk on water, and the anti-reds think Thaksin is the devil incarnate. The rest of us shake our heads at both of them.

We can not find a true calm resignation until attaining to reform the current Military. While remaining the sheme under the ground of Thai society to deprive the power from the formal government, The democracy in Thailand can not relax its guard from an attack of the Militarism. We -every democrats- always must be on our guard. The Big work begins from now on.

Of course there is difference of opinions...especially with all the brainwashing going on in the red villages.......simple minded and gullible people will believe just anything some shrewd , rich and dishonest marketeers spoon them in.....

D3 is right. Nothing's wrong about having different opinion. But Thais must learn to respect each other. When it comes to moving forward it's always and have been together. No one belief or color is perfect. It's never worthwhile to fight each other because of different opinion. Friends, relatives, villagers are always there but politicians, govt. officials, military, amarts come and go and fade away.

This "poll", like the the thousands of polls preceding it,is
about as worthless as politicians promises. Who, specifically,
were polled, how were the questions posed, economic levels engaged ?
The usual, most important part of any poll is, how the results are
used and Thai polls end with results, ( numbers ), reporting and no action !

This polls only confirmed the obvious. People behind this poll have just wasted their time, efforts and money. With the yellow, red, orange,pink, blue and a lot of exising political parties fighting each other are evidence that Thai people are disunited. I would prefer to know the people's opinion on what could make them united. That would be an interestin to know.
