Pongsapat clears himself with EC

Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen on Wednesday submitted related documents to the Election Commission to clear himself of an allegation that he had a record for stealing a radio while studying in the United States.

The alleged theft occurred in 1980 while he was studying criminology in the US under a scholarship.

Pol Gen Pongsapat said the Royal Thai Police Office investigated this matter in 2000 and found the allegation was not true.

    .

    D.12. You're kidding, right ?

In the beginning, lots of people knew that he didn't really wanted to run.

So, what made him change his mind ? Can go back to the police force, that was one.

    Brown bag/s, not likely ?

    An offer in kind ?

D.12. if you ain't kidding, you're in need of help !

Sorry dude ! I can't give you my vote, as I still remember Bangkok was burned.

    @ringmaster. 'I was there too....'.

Just like you met Thaksin in Houston ? And how his visit was reported in the 20 year defunct Houston Post ? You people have no shame.

There is a french adage "pas de fumee sans feu' I translate "no smoke without fire". If really nothing happened why the Royal Police investigated the matter in 2000.

Since the issue was surfaced by the media, it is only wise to clear himself with the relevant agencies. When in crisis, we see a 'real man/woman/person.' I think, if there is going to be an investigation, he will cooperate with the investigating panel. He will not make excuses like; I have a prior arrangement to go to Hongkong, London, sick, etc. He will tackle the issue that is most important to him at the moment. People will look at an issue that happened many years ago differently from what is recent or not so long ago. It is how you manage the crisis that determines your character.

D17 No, Thaksin graduated in 78 or 79. Pongsapat came in 1980. The Dean of the Criminal Justice Program at the time, Dr. Beto, was a strict fellow. If any of his students were implemented in a crime then he'd show them the door. That's why I don't think there's anything to this "stolen radio" story. Just more political muck.

D14. Were Thaskin and Pongsapat classmates? Maybe Thaskin knows what happened.

I knew few people when they were teens did shop lifting out of bordom. They turn out to be decent grown up.If the rumor was true only way to prove is investigate where he studied, and shoplifting at his age will not consider from bordom, if he is running for the big ticket this is serious allegation.

As the article doesn't state what documentation was presented there seem to be a lot of commenter's finding him guilty on nothing at all but their bias and opinion.

Pongsapat was studying at Sam Houston State University at Huntsville, Texas in 1980. I was there too and don't recall any such incident involving him or a radio theft. University police and city police would have records - perhaps some investigative journalists from Thailand should look into it.
