Airline to hear staff demands Feb 8

Demands by Thai Airways International staff for a salary increase of 7.5% and a two-month bonus will be decided by the airline's board on Feb 8, THAI president Sorajak Kasemsuwan said on Sunday.

Mr Sorajak was detailing the latest development after about 400 ground staff of the airline called off their strike over their demands on Sunday morning. The protest disrupted dozens of flights on Saturday, including international ones.

The THAI president's remark contrasted with a claim by Jaemsri Sukchoterat, the THAI labour union chairwoman who led the strike, on Sunday that the board of directors and the staff had reached a mutual agreement.

while the chairwoman of the airlines labour union lashes out at the government campaign of raising the minimum wage to 300 baht, this same person is demanding for the salary raise and 2 month bonus. SHAME...

a full privatisation is the only answer to this rotten airlines...shame on you the TG labour union...accept the truth, you play hard in the thai politic, but do not work as hard...shame on you TG.

Flew in to BKK yesterday great flight, but had to wait for my cases because they said there was a technical fault with the baggage machine ?? was this caused by the strike another porky pie maybe !!

In similar situation abroad, air-port operators have started to outsource the work to private contractors. People are not fired but when they retire they are not replaced. Over a time of 10-15 years the balance of in-house and hired contractor will swing in favor of contractors.

Thai Airways loss 2011: 10 billion baht.
Thai Airways profit 2012: 4 billion baht.

Solution: Give most of the profit to the staff and forget both the shareholders and the debt - very THAI style :-D

Bonus should certainly be based on performance. A one day strike leading to the capitulation of management sets a very dangerous precedent. What is needed is strong management. I am sure Thai Air staff have far better benefits than many employees in this country. Trouble is that TG is a bloated organisation with top posts filled on basis of contacts not ability. They don't have the savvy or experience to handle a situation like this. Thai Air is a struggling, mid-tier airline and will remain so unless there is a big shake up in its organisation. The service is overpriced and sub-standard.
