Cops filmed 'extorting cashier'

Police were caught on video apparently extorting a woman cashier, demanding she post 50,000 baht bail for allegedly conspiring to sell counterfeit goods - a charge she says she vigorously denied.

The clip was uploaded to YouTube on Thursday by a user who went by the name Mild Pond, and was shared throughout the web.

The reputed victim posted on her Facebook page under the username Mild Love Jrt , saying that she worked as a cashier at a shopping mall in Bangkok. A copyright owner came to investigate the stall where she was working  and found that it was distributing counterfeit products.

    the video speak for itself but to make a general conclusion that all police are the same is not fair.I thougt in every department there will always be a bad egg.

    Every nation in the world has, at one time or another, experienced police corruption and,without exception, one solution rose to the top. First, you retire/early retire the physically unfit, then, ( a large number indeed ),the mentally unfit, institute new Human Relations courses at the local colleges - mandatory,raise, significantly, starting salaries, (no cop in Chicago, with a starting salary of 1,200,00 annually - 1 million 200,000B, would take a paltry bribe) but, with added education/ physical requirements. The main problem would be getting an experienced Superintendent to begin this "clean sweep" as it would have to be an outsider !

    Girl 4 months pregnant, former druggie, sleeping with sick 3 year old son. Her girlfriend dumps 5.4 grammes yaa ice beside her while she is asleep, then leaves to use a 0.4 gramme baggie. Another girl tells the cops. Cops raid room. Sleeping girl, in shock, hands them the drugs. Gets arrested for 'possession with intent to distribute'. Offered quick release if she can find 150k before they charge her. Obviously can't. Forced confession. No bail. Khlong Prem. 80 days later in court told she can confess and get 3 years 6 months or can fight her case and get 7 years. Confessed. Forced to have baby by Caesarian during 2011 floods. Thai justice?

    And now people want a Pol Gen to be Bangkok mayor, they wanted a Pol Gen to be PM. This is why this society is better off with the police mafia. Not saying the current governor is any better, they are all no good. Abhisit was one of the cleanest and brightest politician before he got push into the mess.

    I don't see the police was doing the wrong thing judging from this posted video. If the video was posted by the cashier, then she would be into the police station again to facilitate investigation. It is amazing that some posters while criticizing our law enforcement officers has no shame in encouraging corruption through giving bribes to them. It is easy to listen to one side of the story. Since we need people to enforce the law and order, we need to give them moral support while getting rid of bad apples. Casting double, complaining and smearing will not improve the situation, but will affect law enforcement.

    To everyone,graft is so entrenched that its an impossible task. The citizens have to be prepared to "bite the bullet" and refuse every approach, every request, be prepared to be harassed, protest every time and show it (video, letters etc). Rise up as one. All else is useless. Oh D#22 your wrong. This does not come into effect until 2014 and then its selective and possibly will never happen.

    This opinion/example comes from my association with US Police. Police have a difficult, often dangerous job. To do their job they are given a lot of power. Training teaches them to take charge and they often react negatively to any challenge. Power of arrest is perhaps a cop’s most powerful tool and there’s a cop cliché: “You may beat the rap, but you won’t beat the ride.” American cop slang for, “I know it’s a flimsy arrest, but you will be terribly inconvenienced and delayed before you are on your way again.” A little of that cliché was in play here and Thai Police often use it to augment their salary.
