Assumption to reopen Monday

Assumption College classes will resume on Monday as the Education Ministry attempts to defuse a spat between the school director and disgruntled teachers and alumni.

Education Minister Phongthep Thepkanchana said on Saturday that the St Gabriel's Foundation, which operates the school, had informed him it would open on Monday instead of Feb 1 as originally planned.

Director Anan Preechawutthi decided on Friday to close the school until Feb 1 to avoid a protest by a group of teachers and alumni who were demanding his resignation.

This is just the kind of thing I don't need to see happening. The public education system in this country is bad enough. We have just enrolled our son in this High School (read Thai College). Geez, I hope we can get a refund and keep him where he is now! By the way, when are they going to demand 3, 4 or 5 months year end bonus?

It becomes Thai reputation to go wild- shouting along the streets, roads instead of sitting together in an air conditioning room resolving whatever issues or conflict between them.
