Sonthaya: Father's arrest not political

Culture Minister Sonthaya Khunploem believes the arrest of his father Somchai has nothing to do with politics and will not affect his position in the cabinet.

Mr Sonthaya said he learned of his father's arrest from reporters, but not in detail. He said he could not do anything but allow the law to take its course.

Mr Sonthaya said he did not think the arrest was politically motivated.

Indicative of what a state Thai politics/Thailand is in when this man's son is Culture Minister.

'The Supreme Court....sentenced Somchai in absentia to 25 years in prison for hiring a gunman to murder Prayoon Sitthichoke...'.....'Somchai was earlier found guilty by the Chon Buri Court of graft...'

'The murder case against Somchai Khunploem, alias Kamnan Poh, is final and the Criminal Court will send him to prison....'.

    Good. Thaksin next.

"Mr Sonthaya said he did not know that his father, better known as Kamnan Poh, was in the country. He knew only that he spent most of his time abroad."

That's strange. The Bangkok police knew he was in Chon Buri, and his own son didn't know that.
