Veterans lauded, also ignored

A group of academics said Wednesday they have found that military veterans in the country have been "discarded and forgotten" by the government.

The report came the same day the military announced that Army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha has established a special fund to provide financial help to disabled veterans, and praised them for their service and sacrifices.

In a ceremony at army headquarters on Tuesday to mark the start of the fund, which will provide monthly financial help to 139 honorably discharged veterans, Gen Prayuth delivered heartfelt thanks and praises to his men.

USA elected physical handicaped female veteran to congress this year. Thanks to Obama, and you might know that who she is...Tammy Duckworth who has Thai mother. Thailand has many low level veterans. the higher rank ones work with lip service from the desk . You don't see many generals were positioned on front line.Do you?

Shame on the present and past governments of Thailand if this is the way you treat veterans.

"With limited funds, the foundation would initially pay the 139 veterans 2,000 baht per month each for six months."

The army chief is very generous. Not.

D1, not enough soldier only too many senior officers. Our Chiang Mai USA VFW post assists the local version of the Thai VA, and I can say for sure from personal experience that they are very, very, very neglected. Discarded after their service like the USA tried to do with us after They scdrewed us by sending us to Vietnam and spraying us with deadly chemicals.

In this computer age we don't really need such a big army. Quantity never beats quality. Perhaps can concert 1/3 to become police to make Thailand safer.

"'Some officials arrived at the soldiers’ home with a sign showing the amount of money they would give. They took photos with them, then left and never sent the money,' Miss Rawhani said." So typical. But why only vets discharged since 2004?

    Too many soldiers in Thailand.
