Varathep can hold cabinet seat

The Constitution Court judges ruled yesterday that Prime Minister's Office Minister Varathep Rattanakorn is qualified to hold his seat in the cabinet.

Varathep: Never went behind bars

The judges decided by six to three that Mr Varathep is still eligible for a ministerial portfolio, despite receiving a suspended prison sentence, because he has never actually served time behind bars.

mogy - yes, people like rontorre deflect and turn criticism on someone else when they know it's the truth. So I misprinted. He knew exactly what I meant.
I should have just said this qualifies him to hold ANY government post? In a red PTP government, apparently, YES.

Rontorre: don't be pedantic. You as well as everyone else reading knows what he meant.

This must apply to abhisit also. He has never been behind bars as well.

Have I got this right. He is qualified only because he did not step into a cell or conversely he is unqualified because he was found guilty of an offence but let off on a technicality because he did not enter physical custody. I do not get it. When he was found guilty he was then in the "custody "of law enforcement. Standing in a courtroom he in custody - wasn't he. Are you telling me the law says he is free until his shoe hits a prison concrete floor.

I thought the release on bail of convicted murderers was the Thai justice low point but this now sets the bar underground. Just disgusting.

If you were actually Brilliant you would have noticed that this has nothing to do with being an MP, it is about a cabinet post.

"He was found guilty of malfeasance over the introduction of the two- and three-digit lottery while serving as a deputy finance minister in the Thaksin Shinawatra administration."

And he can still be a MP, well, isn't that just lovely. He'll fit right in.
