Technology damages brain

Electronic devices which easily substitute for thinking will result in higher numbers of people with Alzheimer's disease, according to the Public Health Ministry.

Deputy Public Health Minister Chonlanan Srikaew said on Thursday that the use of gadgets like calculators, mobile phones and even karaoke machines opens up the possibility for users to lose their memory and eventually develop Alzheimer's disease.

"Using technologies instead of the brain at a young age could speed up the process of memory loss. Therefore, children should practice the alphabet or memorise song lyrics more often," the deputy minister said.

"Electronic devices which easily substitute for thinking will result in higher numbers of people with Alzheimer's disease"...where does he get this from, just guessing or is his thinking machine telling doing it for him?!

Did his research study for Alzheimer's age 60 and above correct for/take into account alcohol induced dementia as alcohol is a huge problem in society and is know to cause dementia.

The moribund education system already does quite well at failing to turn on the "brain switch"

You don't have to have a pad, a mobile phone, a computer or a karaoke machine to be bombarded with electro magnetic energy. It's all around us anyway, oops, I forgot the point I was trying to make.

That's odd since the present sort of technology hasn't been around so long. Perhaps in 30 years if someone made such a claim I might consider believing it. Which leaves one question. How many 30 year olds in Thailand have alzheimer's?

Better take away all the pads that were given to the kids, I guess.

Can someone explain this in plain Thai to Yingluck? Maybe the money WASTED on tablet computers can be re-directed towards teacher improvement?

"Deputy Public Health Minister Chonlanan Srikaew said on Thursday that the use of gadgets like calculators, mobile phones and even karaoke machines opens up the possibility for users to lose their memory and eventually develop Alzheimer's disease."

Any shred of evidence, or is this dubious guess itself a sign of incipient Alzheimer's?
The usual baseless fantasy we expect from a Thai Minister looking for a cheap soundbite at a meaningless photo op.

Why don't the attending press members press a bit when such nonsense is spouted?

Better cancel the one tablet per child!!
