Three defence volunteers were killed and 11 other people wounded in a twin-bomb explosion in the heart of Pattani township before noon on Sunday, police said.

Pol Col Tuandir Juthanant, the Muang Pattani police chief, said the bombs went off at about 11.51am at the clock tower intersection on Piphit Road in Muang district in front of Big Ben restaurant.

The impact of the explosion damaged the restaurant and about 10 other shophouses. One car and more than 10 motorcycles were also damaged.

Even sadder is that this article would have been bold type headlines a few months ago and now, barely makes the news at all. Life in Thailand becomes less valuable daily.

The curfew was not considered for Pattani as that would disrupt the already troubled economy. There is already an anti-travel advisory for the region, though no indication that foreigners are being targeted (unlike Afghanistan,). There is already quite heavy security there (60000 troops in a relatively small region) but the bombs still manage to get through. May the victims RIP.

A curfew may not have prevented this attack but there is also no doubt that without a curfew and night patrols an attack somewhere was a certainty. The two deaths and 11 injuries were preventable IMO if the government had listened to its military experts and not Islamic Clerics.

And, yet, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is promoting Pattani. Amazing Thailand.

The violence in this province becomes worst. The government should make an advisory to all foreigners not to go there for safety. This present administration have done nothing to stop this killing, only promises I guess. The province is even worst than afghanistan and other parts of middle east. Thai government is playing inutil in as far as maintaining peace and order sitaution is concerns. The PM should divert her attention not jusr merely on politics.
