China considered killing Naw Kham with drone

China considered using a drone to kill drug warlord Naw Kham in the Myanmar section of the Golden Triangle last year, the Chinese anti-drug agent who chased him for months has revealed.

Within days of his capture, the Golden Triangle war lord was shown confessing on Chinese TV channels.

The drone operation stood down when senior Chinese officials said they wanted Naw Kham taken alive, and put on trial. He was subsequently captured in a joint Chinese-Lao operation, and has been sentenced to death by a Chinese court.

Many times the Chinese Government is criticized as being too harsh but the only way to get rid of big time drug traffickers is the way they have chosen. Congratulation!

I do wish the press would desist in calling these murderers and drug traffickers 'warlords and 'drug barons/lords'. Bit Boy's Own glamour don't you think.

It sends a message to the ultra-bad criminals and drugs / war lords that their days can be numbered now.

But as Discussion 1 has indicated, the Thai way is quite different. If the criminals are rich and are prepared to pay you well, release them on permanent bail, let their court cases disappear, and even change the Constitution, if necessary, to bring them back as a hero. Even let them command the government pirate ship, if they're very rich!

Yea, but the 'geenie' is out of the bottle... I predict that countries other than the USA will use drones & it will be difficult to object to them in light of precidents set by America.

Extra-judicial killing of US citizens under the rational that there is a perpetual, never-ending 'war' on terrorism is an anethma to civilized conduct!

In Thailand even if he was caught he would have bought his way out.

    Money rules.

You also have to admire China for capturing him and giving him a trial. "Mr Obama chose to confront Bin Laden in order to confirm his death." An extrajudicial killing is just that no matter who does it and it's sad to see how many people cannot see the unacceptable precedent this criminal act set.

You have to give iot to China for punishing the bad guys and not releasing them on bail or trying to change the law for them .
