Police launch an arresting museum

In the heart of Rattanakosin Island, a new facility will show the history of the force

Museums don't generally register very high among Thais on their list of places for a day out, but the police hope a new facility dedicated to them will be an exception.

"I would like this museum to last for 100 years for our children in the future," Pol Col Jiradul Sothibandhu said, referring to part of the 107-year-old Chitrada Villa in Bangkok which is being turned into the Police Museum.

Bravo, D1 through D15. What more is there to say? A job well done.

Article should read history of the farce!

A display of this article with comments would be an honest and interesting exhibit.

The public's impression and response to the BiB should be part of any true history of the force.

Obviously won't happen. Room for an alternative police museum.

Dummy cctv camera and uncalibrated breath-analyser are two items that should be shown in the police museum.

How much do you have to pay to get out?

An entire museum dedicated to corruption, theft, and other extracurricular activities. I wonder if there will be a small shelf dedicated to actual police work? Amazing Thailand.

"At the museum where the officers will learn of the history and past contributions to the country of their fellow police, "they will be proud, but they will be ashamed if they are currently diverted from the right track", he said."

No ifs about it...they have completely lost the plot about what policing is about.

This article was of course asking for the range of sarcastic and hostile comments it has received. Everyone, both Thai and foreigner, knows the police are just uniformed crooks.

The section on traffic management must be the large empty room at the back. I hope they are brave enough to show a real world example of a central city police box showing the red and green traffic light buttons and the alarm clock for controlling traffic flow. Maybe they could add and explanation why they still use the 18th century buffalo branding plan for traffic control.

A nice cabinet devoted to the history of the brown envelope?

"The sixth zone is specifically for children who dream of becoming a police officer when they grow up." Sure. Thai children dream of all the opportunities they could have as a policeman: skimming, scamming, extorting, bullinging and outright theft.

"Some declined to give treasured mementoes of their careers to the museum."
Well, it is hard to fit all those Rolex watches, fleets of Mercedes, mulitple homes and buckets of cash into such a restricted space.
