Uni courses declared invalid

KHON KAEN : The Council of State says all courses taught by E-sarn University are invalid, leaving almost 1,600 students in turmoil.

Sumon Sakolchai, a former rector of the university, yesterday met almost 500 students studying bachelor's, master's and graduate courses in teaching at the university to tell them the bad news.

The Education Ministry last October ordered the Khon Kaen-based university to close down after it was found to be selling graduate certificates to students.

'.........An Education Ministry committee set up to take control of the university can do nothing about it, Mr Sumon said.........They could at least initiate a class action lawsuit on behalf of the affected parties against the Dean, Board of Directors/Trustees or whoever owns it. Sure it would drag on for centuries if it went to court, but with any luck they could reach a settlement and get their fees back.

Perhaps the uni failed to bribe The Council of State? Sorry for the pessimism but after living here the sobering realities hit home.

How far are they going to go with this? If you are going to shut the school down you can't stop there. How many "graduates" are currently working in Thai schools? Will they be fired?

" after it was found to be selling graduate certificates to students." But I thought this was normal in all Thai universities.
Does this mean future graduates in English will actually speak English?

And who is going to jail for selling degrees?

The more interesting question though must be: How many Thai universities do not sell degrees?

And just what is a Thai university degree worth?

It is sad for Thai students who do not have the option of Oxford or some other decent university.
