Poll: Support for southern talks

Nearly two-thirds of people polled by Nida believe peace talks with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) could lead to an end to the unrest in southern Thailand.

Pollsters from the National Institute of Development Administration (Nida) based the conclusion on interviews conducted on March 14 and 15 with 1,669 people of all education levels and occupations nationwide.

Nida said 64.9% of respondents believed peace talks would lead to an end to the southern unrest, that negotiations would solve the problem at the right point and were better than the use of force.

another useless poll, similar to the one which predicted that Phongsapat would win the BKK Government elections...
I can only conclude from NIDA that 23.9% of the Thais see the problem. The future will prove this. BRN is not counterpart for agreements as they do not represent in any way the real terrorists, with whom the Government should never have talked. Put three Muslims together and you have five different opinions. So who from their Muslim side is representing what? Another stupid idea from the man from Dubai... Thai people, please open your eyes; it's not too late but it's five to twelve!!!

Nida: how many individuals from the three southernmost provinces did participate to this poll? 1,700 over the whole country is already a quite thin sample, but how many real rural Southerners among them (Thai spoken, erm?), not the guys at Starbucks in Hatyai I mean, hmm? Thailand... and polls...
