Women conned to sell sex in Bahrain

Police are seeking five women who worked as prostitutes in Bahrain after arresting the Thai woman who allegedly tricked them into going abroad.

Paijit Swasri, 41, was arrested on Thursday on charges of luring other women into prostitution in Bahrain last year.
The Anti-human Trafficking Division and the Paveena Hongsakul Foundation for Women and Children were now working together to find the five Thai women who worked in Bahrain, said Pol Col Chatchawan Suksomjit, an adviser to the Royal Thai Police.
Investigators found out that Ms Paijit had opened a noodle shop in front of Ramkhamhaeng University last year as a front, said Pol Col Chatchawan.
Ms Paijit initially denied all the charges and said she had only approached the women and asked them whether they would like to work as waitresses at a restaurant in the Middle Eastern country.
Investigators also discovered that Ms Paijit had six accomplices - two Thais and four Bahrainis - and arrest warrants have been issued for all of them.
"Human trafficking has become a problem on a global scale that Thailand is trying to tackle," Pol Col Chatchawan said.
"The national police chief [Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew] sees this issue as a top priority and has instructed officers in all areas to closely monitor the situation."
