The Khon Kaen provincial court granted bail Sunday to student activist Pai Dao Din, accused of lese majeste after he shared an offensive link about His Majesty the King on Facebook.
Jatupat "Pai Dao Din" Boonpattararaksa was temporarily released on bail after police brought him before the court and asked to further detain him for questioning.
Mr Jatupat's legal team submitted a petition seeking his temporary release on the grounds that Mr Jatupat was a suspect in four political cases and never posed a flight risk.
Moreover, the Khaon Kaen University law student has an exam on Dec 8 which he needs to take to complete his studies.
The court considered and granted the bail request at 400,000 baht.
Mr Jatupat's release was reported by the New Democracy Movement on its Facebook page and by Wibul Boonpatararaksa, the lawyer.
Mr Jatupat was arrested in Chaiyaphum after sharing a controversial BBC Thai website report about His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun.
He was accused of violating Section 112 of the Criminal Code, commonly known as the lese majeste law. The complaint was lodged by an officer from the 23rd Army Circle.
Mr Jatupat first came to public attention when he and his friends flashed a rebellious three-finger salute at an event attended by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha shortly after the 2014 coup.
Mr Jatupat had already been arrested and charged on Aug 6 in Chaiyaphum, one day before the constitutional referendum, for allegedly violating the ban on distributing leaflets explaining why people should vote "no" to the government's proposed reforms.
