Yingluck more popular than Abhisit

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is still more popular than former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, according to a survey by Abac Poll.

The poll was conducted from Dec 1 last year to Jan 18 and involved 4,689 people aged 18 and up in 17 provinces - Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Chachoengsao, Suphan Buri, Nan, Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Amnat Charoen, Si Sa Ket, Loei, Sakon Nakhon, Udon Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Surat Thani, Yala and Songkhla.

The survey results, revealed today, show that Ms Yingluck's overall popularity had dropped slightly to 34.7 per cent from 38.6 per cent in September last year.

Mr Abhisit's popularity increased slightly to 14.2 per cent in January from 12.9 per cent in September.

However, Ms Yingluck was still more popular than Mr Abhisit.

The percentage of people who liked neither of them increased to 51.1 per cent from 48.5 per cent during the same period.

By sex, Ms Yingluck was slightly more popular among men (35.4 per cent) than women (34.1 per cent).

By age, Ms Yingluck was more popular among those aged 50 and over than those aged 20 and below by 38.3 to  34.0 per cent.  Those aged between 20-50 liked neither of them.

By education, Ms Yingluck was more popular among those below bachelor's degree education than those of holding a bachelor's degree and higher by 35.5 to 31.1 per cent.

The survey also found that Ms Yingluck was more popular in rural areas than in urban areas, while Mr Abhisit was more popular with town people than people in rural areas.

By region, Ms Yingluck was more popular than Mr Abhisit in all regions, including Bangkok, except the South.

What is interesting is that a clear majority, 59.9 per cent, of people in the Central region did not like either  of them.
