Pongsapat to contest city governor poll

The Pheu Thai Party will field deputy police chief Pongsapat Pongcharoen as its candidate for the upcoming Bangkok governor election, a party source says.

Pol Gen Pongsapat also serves as secretary-general of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board.

Earlier, Pheu Thai members were divided over who to nominate.

    PJT, I couldn't agree more. Frankly, if I was able to vote, anyone connected with the police would have the least of my confidence in doing their job to serve the 'people'. Ratchaprasong still lingers in my mind.

    Another example of the deep connection between PT/UDD and the police force - it is really not right for a serving officer to be nominated to contest a political position of this level, or indeed go straight into other governments service positions as happens all too frequently. Surely there should be some gap between military or police officers leaving service and obtaining senior level political or government positions, especially those well outside their scope of experience
