Protesters denounce ICJ over land dispute

Hundreds of members of the Thai Patriots Network rallied at the Royal Plaza yesterday to oppose the International Court of Justice (ICJ)'s role in ruling on the Thai-Cambodian dispute over the Preah Vihear temple.

Members of the Thai Patriots Network gather in front of the Supreme Court to submit a petition calling on the government to reject the International Court of Justice’s jurisdiction in the territorial dispute over the Preah Vihear temple. A similar petition was also lodged with the commanders of the three armed forces. PATTARAPONG CHATPATTARASILL

Chaiwat Sinsuwong, a leader of the rally, said the network had 1.3 million people sign a petition rejecting the ICJ's jurisdiction over the issue.

They call themselves "patriots".

Like the PAD; "People's Alliance for Democracy", yet...want only 30% of government elected by the people.

I suggest arming the patriots and letting them do the fighting, instead of sending young workers and farmers to kill each other; on both sides.

Almost every world conflict is the same:

Generals and the wealthy sending the poor to kill each other, for reasons only the powerful and wealthy will benefit from.

Patriotism as propaganda is the binding glue.

Only imagine: The ICJ gives all the land around that temple to Cambodia and the thai Army will withdraw from that land on orders from madam PM. How many people can the PAD bring to the street in that case? A 1000, 10000 or 100000 or more?

I was in Singapore last week, and it was apparent to everyone in the business community there that certain interests within in Thailand were hyping up this matter for purposes of advancing their domestic political agenda. Do people in Thailand understand that this dispute is not really over the temple? Do they understand they are being manipulated? It seems as though everyone outside of Thailand familiar with this matter understands that this is really what the dispute is about.

I'm sure Buddha would be happy that 2 countries fight over a temple.
In the spirit of peace and Buddhism can't the 2 create a shared religious space?
