EC: People can remove city governor

The people of Bangkok can seek the removal from office of a city governor who fails to fulfil promises made during the election campaign, Bangkok's election committee chairman Taweesak Toochinda said on Thursday.

Pol Lt-Gen Taweesak was referring to Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva's observations that Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen, the Pheu Thai Party'candidate in the March 3 guberrnatorial election, might have breached the election law by saying in his campaign speeches that he would seek to provide bus and boat services free of charge and lower the rental of vending stalls at Chatuchak weekend market.

Mr Abhisit said Pol Gen Pongsapat's campaign promises might not be within the jurisdiction of the Bangkok governor.

BMA no longer controls Chatuchak Market, so it will be very interesting to hear how he intends to keep that promise.

Disc. #2 "Should it (removal) be applied to the Government as well?"

Yes it should, and it does. It is called an election. Explains what happened last election. And I look forward to how the voters will judge matters next time.

That is just in paper, but in reality we had never heard of any politicians who made a lot of promises during his campaign that was remove from his office for failure to fulfil his promeses. Not even one though from the PM to the lowesst positions, most politicians immidiattely forgot what they've promised to the people after they were elected.
