Attack hurts PM whistler

An anti-government protester who grabbed headlines for blowing a whistle at caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra during her visit to Khao Kho district in Phetchabun last year was slightly injured in a gun attack yesterday.

Police who rushed to the scene of the shooting at a market at Wat Camp Son in Khao Kho district found a bronze Toyota Vigo pickup truck with a Phitsanulok licence plate riddled with bullet holes.

The vehicle's windscreen was also shattered.

The owner of the pickup truck, later identified as Pattanan Leeluan, 26, was slightly injured in the gun attack.

Police said three armed men fired at the vehicle about 2pm yesterday.

They later fled in a black Vigo pickup truck with a Bangkok-registered licence plate.

Police say they were investigating all possible motives for the attack, including political.

Ms Pattanan, nicknamed ''Nong Nut'', gained public notoriety after she blew a whistle at Ms Yingluck in protest at her government during the caretaker prime minister's trip to Khao Kho in December.

She later took to the anti-government stage at the Ratchadamnoen rally site and was presented with a golden whistle by People's Democratic Reform Committee secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban as a reward for her "courage" in standing up against the government.
