PDRC mass rally changed to May 9

The People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) leader has changed the date of the “final all-out battle” against the government and the so-called Thaksin regime from May 14 to May 9 at Lumpini Park starting 9.09am.

Mr Suthep announced the change on Wednesday night after the Constitutional Court removed caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and nine of her ministers from office for the unlawful removal of Thawil Pliensri as secretary-general of the National Security Council.

Mr Suthep told supporters at Lumpini Park, the main PDRC rally site, that the new date for the planned mass rally was necessary because the political situation had changed.

He invited all groups of people including members of the red-shirt movement to gather at Lumpini Park on Friday, May 9 at 9.09am.

On that day, Mr Suthep said, the PDRC will expand the rally from Lumpini Park to Ratchadamri Road and to Pathumwan intersection. If people turn up in force, the rally area may even cover Henri Dunant Road, he added.

“We will join forces at Lumpini Park, and march to Ratchaprasong, Pathumwan and in this perimeter, preparing to mobilise and carry out an important mission,” Mr Suthep said.

He remained tight-lipped about what the PDRC plans to do on the day.

The PDRC leader said he would lead a march along Sukhumvit Road on Thursday at 9am to invite people for the last time to join the movement’s “final mass rally”. The march will start at On Nut BTS station.
