Majority satisfied with Prayut govt

A majority of people, more than 80%, are satisfied with the past six months performance of the government under Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, although it has some weak points, according to Suan Dusit Poll.

The poll was carried out between Feb 20 and 28 on 1,632 people throughout the country to survey their opinions on the performance of the government which took office on Aug 25 last year.

To the question of whether they are satisfied with the government, 53.91% of the respondents said they were moderately satisfied; 27.58% much satisfied; 12.10% rather dissatisfied; and 6.45% not satisfied at all.

The top five ministries which performed satisfactorily, according to the respondents, are: Defence (74.51%); Foreign Affairs (63.17%); Finance (61.83%); and Transport (58.52%).

Asked what work results of the government impressed them the most, 87.25% pointed to assistance to farmers and payment for the pledged rice; 81% to suppression of corruption in both the public and private sectors; 76.35% to the policies of various ministries which aim to help the people; 74.51% to the development of mass transport and the clear policy over high-speed trains; and 66.05% to improvements in foreign relations.

Asked about the government's weak points, 82.11% pointed to its inability to effectively handle the problem of education, high cost of living and drugs; 75.92% the restrictions on expression of opinion; 71.69% to the lack of experience and expertise in some fields; 70.34% to the lack of work assessments; and 69.06% to the lack of recognition from foreign countries for being unelected.
