Ban Ki-moon presses Prayut on democracy

The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon expressed hope that Thailand's roadmap towards democracy will be realised within its time-frame, said government spokesman Yongyuth Mayalarp.

The UN chief made his remarks during a meeting with Gen Prayut at the UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Sendai, Japan, over the weekend. He asked about the political transition and expressed confidence Thailand will be successful in its bid to build democracy, said Mr Yongyuth.

The National Council for Peace and Order aims to complete the constitution by the end of this year and hold general elections by the end of next year.
