Majority agree to use of Section 44

A majority of people agree to the invocation of Section 44 of the interim constitution to replace martial law, saying it will enable the government to maintain law and order, according to the result of Suan Dusit Poll revealed on Sunday.

The poll was carried out between April 1-4 on 1,262 people throughout the country.

Asked whether they think Section 44 of the interim constitution should be invoked, a majority or 51.58% agreed, saying that it would help the government keep the situation under control, prevent possible violence, lower pressure from foreign countries against the use of martial law, and might improve the country's tourism and investment climates.

A smaller number of respondents, or 32.33%, disagreed, saying it could lead to power abuse without checks.

The rest, 16.09%, were uncertain, reasoning that they did not know the matter in detail.
