Prayut shrugs off Thaksin appearance

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha acted unworried Tuesday about a planned speech by Thaksin Shinawatra at an international conference in Seoul.

The prime minister expected Thaksin to draw many listeners at the 6th Asian Leadership Conference, but said not everyone would agree with the message he plans to deliver.

"He will draw many people. But the world will know whether he tells the truth or not,'' Gen Prayut said.

The conference will be held May 19-20 in Seoul and the former prime minister is among the speakers. Others include Jack Ma, executive chairman of Alibaba Group.

Thaksin has posted on Instagram that he was invited to speak on May 19 and will meet his twin granddaughters for the first time in South Korea.

His daughter Paetongtarn wrote on his Instagram account on Sunday that ''grandpa'' will have a chance to see her daughters there.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said Thaksin knew what he should do and hoped that the disgraced premier will not use the forum to damage Thailand.

"He knows what he should do. I don't have to tell him. He should not say anything negative about Thailand,'' Gen Prawit said.
