Most Thais are not confident that politics will not return to the old cycle of misuse of power, conflicts and a military coup after the next election, according to the result of an opinion poll conducted by the National Institute for Development Administration, or Nida Poll.
The poll was conducted on May 27-28 on 1,250 people aged 18 and over of various levels of eduction and occupation throughout the country.
Asked whether they were confident politics after the next election would not return to misuse of power, conflicts and a military coup, only 12.4% said they were sure it would not, and 18.16% were fairly confident; 35.36% said they were only a little confident and 31.6% were not confident at all; 2.48% gave no answer.
Asked whether they were confident the government after the election would be able to continue with reform, 55.92% said they were not; 41.12% were confident; and 2.96% had no answer.
Concerning their opinions on the election and reform, most or 68.56% said they wanted the country to first undergo reform no matter how much time it takes; 24% said there should be an election as soon as possible: 1.84% said both could be done simultaneously; and 5.6% had no answer.
