Taiwan to accept abandoned boy

A seven-year-old boy abandoned by his mother in Thailand could be on his way back to Taiwan after Taiwanese officials arrived at the village in Chiang Rai province where he has lived for almost three years.

“Little Ma” has been cared for by villagers since his Taiwanese mother returned home without him following a trip to see her Thai boyfriend in March 2010.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it learned about the boy from a letter sent by a Thai woman in October last year and has been negotiating with the Thai government over the issuance of a visa for the boy who does not have identity papers, according to a report in the Taipei Times.
