A man on the rooftop of the Government Savings Bank in the Government House compound on Tuesday morning threw giant firecrackers, demanding justice for a land problem at his home province in Nan.
The apparently disturbed man, identified as Chalerm Sonnonthee, 44, from Mae Charim district of Nan, raised a banner read: "With hope and faith in the prime minister, I demand justice."
He intermittently threw a total of five giant firecrackers in the direction of the Government House building, causing no injuries but sending onlookers running in panic.
Special Branch police tried to talk him down from the bank's rooftop, behind the Santi Maitree building inside the Government House complex, and asked him to explain his demand, but Mr Chalerm did not cooperate.
He is known to security staff. This was his third appearance at Government House, claiming he was trying to demand justice.
On April 1 of last year, Mr Chalerm climbed over the fence of Government House and climbed to the rooftop of the building housing police guards. He raised a banner in that incident calling for justice from the prime minister.
On Oct 2, 2015, he poured kerosene over his body in front of Gate 4 of Government House, and threatened to set himself on fire.
