Five passengers were wounded when gunmen on motorcycles attacked a bus in Pattani’s Saiburi district on Friday morning.
The bus was travelling on the Pattani-Narathiwat road and was passing through moo 6 in tambon Trohbon of Saiburi when gunmen riding pillion on two motorcycles fired on the bus with assault rifles. The attackers then fled.
The driver of the bus did not stop his vehicle and drove on to ask for help from a security unit at the Manang Dalam checkpoint, said Pol Col Arsis Umayee, chief of Saiburi police station.
Five passengers were wounded by the shooters and were taken to Saiburi hospital.
Police blamed separatist militants.
