Lookmoo #9, each drone is flown by 2 pilots per 6-hrs shift along with half a dozen of supporting ground crew. So for 24/7 coverage, 4 sets of flight crew or 8 pilots are needed. Each drone typically stays up for about 40 hrs at a time and with powerful camera & night-vision sensor, can cover vast area. And with curfew law, any movement on the ground at night will be easily spotted and dealt with appropriately. So do you think Thailand is ready to pay $45 million a piece for half a dozen of Swedish fighter jets for a total of $270, which will never get dinged up by any enemy fire, but it is not willing to pay $350,000 a piece for drones?

Khun Drsmith #10, if so, how you explain the continuing support by the USA to sell every spare parts we need to keep our 50-plus F-16s operational? And have we just bought half a dozen of $45 million-a-piece fighter jets from Sweden with 6 more on order? You don't think Sweden is more crooked than the USA or Israel, do you? We bought mostly land weaponry from Ukraine, and Russia because they are rugged, dependable, and most important of all, CHEAP. That's why the Russian AK-47 is outselling the American M-16 by more than 10:1.

'"It is confidential, but we talked a lot and it's so far so good," he said.'

    He went to get drunk.

D1 Yes the technology is available however the Thai military will not deal with countries that have strict anti-corruption policies like Israel and the USA. That is why you see allot of Thai military purchases from Ukraine and other corrupt countries

Spiceman some facts on you "cost-effective" systems:

    * Requires 570 pilots to maintain 50 unmanned aircraft in orbits
    * USA lost about 554 UAVs in Iraq to a costs of about 175.000.000 dollars
    * A Shadow UAV (standard drone) costs about 350.000 Dollars.

Cheap in lives but not in money. As most Thai soldier does not know on what side of the road they should go when they go on fot patrol there are more urgent needs than UAEs.

This can't be good news for Chalerm.

The last thing you need is a headache when you've already got a hangover.

"Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung said yesterday the government's peace process for the South was on the right track."
This was probably said after the 8 bottles of wine...

still no plan of action by this regime, contrary to chalerm insistence, on track comments, whilst the deep south thai citizens still suffering, perhap the pm yingluck should look to someone more in control of his behavior and sensesitivity, very poor judgement by the pm to send chalerm to malaysia, heads should roll from the very top, and generals should be more focused on the duty not PR photo calls

Chalerm is out getting drunk and Thai soldiers and Thai police continue to be the targets of terrorists. But, everything is on the right track.
