Three blown up in Pattani bloodbath

Insurgents launch 50 coordinated attacks

Insurgents kept security authorities running in Pattani Sunday with a string of up to 50 coordinated bombing and arson attacks.

They included a bomb blast outside a restaurant in Pattani town about midday which killed three defence volunteers. The bomb was hidden in a pile of clothes outside the restaurant. The blast also injured dozens of people.

The blast was part of a spate of coordinated attacks by separatist militants in Pattani's Muang and Yaring districts which started at 6pm on Saturday.

I kinda agree with D12. People, if you study the history of the issue, you will see how it came about. It's not simply that a group just hated the others so much. There had been unresolved conflicts and mistreatment in the past. Peace negotiation may already be too late, but we need to open our arm and try to convert (bad to good) those who are still convertible as much as possible. At least not turning new ones to the insurgents.

Those who have done wrong on both sides need to be brought to justice. Taken that aside, hatred must be treated with love. We need a new leader who is willing to take care of this issue at the root caus

Dear BP; The words “militants” and “insurgents” are too good for these murderous thugs. Plain and simple they are vicious, cowardly terrorists. Please start calling them what they are.

Disc12 Abbub... This is one of the very few times I agree with you.

"To jaw jaw is always better than to war war." Winston Churchill 1914

The fact that many people in the South believe the 16 dead men to be martyrs indicates the universal truth, 'One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter'. Force has failed. Negotiations are the way forward.

D9 unfortunately I sort of agree face saving is a big problem with this situation and when politicians would rather let innocent people die rather than loose face then it’s time to change the politician

I find one unattended root cause for the terrorism. I think it is not government or any foreign involvement mistake. They are trying best to solve the situation. Many Muslim men do not get the love and care from home. The Muslim girls are taught since childhoods that do not make love with man, and always have a big gap. Muslim man are in extreme stress in homes, regular conflicts, misunderstandings, unhealthy love life and increasing divorce rate make them crazy and they release their anger on roads and military by bombing. People can disagree with me, but please spend sometime survey about it. Go to any mosque, the Imam (religious teacher) e

The challenge must be met! I believe the police are trying their best. It is Mr. Chalerm who should be replaced with someone more competent and serious.

Calling off the proposed curfew sent exactly the wrong message to the jihadist insurgents and this spate of co-ordinated bomb attacks is the result.

Time to admit force is never going to work. What do the so called terrorists want and start to negotiate. I said 2 weeks ago that the negotiation advantage would reverse and it is doing, is now in the insurgents favour.By the way has the deputy PM accepted there is a terrorist problem or is he still in denial. With his attitude and mindset I fear a solution to the problem is impossible.

Northern Ireland. Basque country in Spain. Now even the Philippines and Colombia.

    Dialogue. Dialogue. Dialogue.

While I abhor violence, both sides in the southern conflict have committed atrocities. While many southern militants are jailed not a single soldier has ever been held accountable for anything.

Continuing to make believe "we" are 100% right and "they" 100% wrong is counterproductive.

Some of their grievances are legitimate and need to be addressed.
