Thaksin and army chief differ over peace move

Former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has weighed into the move to end the southern violence, saying the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) remained influential in the restive region, but his comments have failed to convince the army chief.

Thaksin, who engineered the deal signed between the National Security Council (NSC) and the BRN in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday, told the mass circulation Thai Rath in its Sunday edition that only militant groups based in Malaysia and Indonesia were behind the trouble in the southernmost provinces.

Thailand must maintain 'face', and as long as Thaksin wanders freely, he shames and embarrasses a Great Nation. I hope someone brings him 'home' to Justice soon.

The fugitive was loosing face. Chalerm was acknowledging the fugitives errors and starting to make plans to put matters back on the right footing. Had to do something anything, to cloud the issue. The Messiah does not make mistakes.

Eric #35, is it matter that a man playing with his matches and started a fire in our Deep Southern forest? The fire has been growing in its destructive force, consuming well over 5,000 lives-to date. And you are blaming other for it, come-on? I am afraid the fire has already reached its critical mass and will continue to feed itself until there is no more trees to be burned. When a fire is still small, it can be put out by water but when it has grown this large, the only way to put it out is by fighting fire with fire, if we choose to do it. Of course, many trees must be sacrificed to stop the raging flame or it will keep on burning...

Maybe the fugitive should be talking to the families of the hundreds killed under his responsibility????

Thaksin now really has some influence on Malaysian ruling party, so he can arrange the negotiation through Nagib. For Prayuth, he needs to improve intelligence on the ground and stop the leakage of information from the army to the insurgents. It seems to me that the insurgents still have better intelligence than the army.

well intended person who want to help is appreciated but people who are in authority should be the correct person as such, thing can go complicated and very wrong or task of finding a resolution may take very long. So that, correct person is also help accountable.

"Gen Prayuth said there were other factions operating in the restive region and the group which signed the agreement with the NSC on Thursday was an old guard outfit trying to re-establish its role in the far South and its influence with other insurgents."

One could say the same about Thaksin.

We need all the help to solve the south unrest. Ahbisit, senators etc talk about it but never have suggested any solution or getting involved. So what if it's Taksin. If he can get the job done and bring peace, it will be good for all of us. If he is unsuccessful, he is just one of few who tried. Talk is so cheap now a days.
