A villager was shot and injured in an ambush in Rueso district of the southernmost province of Narathiwat late Friday night, police said.
He was identified as Softone Tanyong Ali, 33, a resident of Ban Lukahulu in tambon Batong of Rueso district.
Witnesses told police that Mr Softone was travelling on a motorcycle along the rural road in the village when a gunman hiding in roadside forest fired on him twice with 9mm handgun. The assailant then fled.
Mr Softone was shot in his right hip and taken to Rueso hospital.
Police were investigating.
